Sul mitico circuito di <strong>SPA Francochamps<\/strong>, situato nel cuore delle Ardenne, si schierano le 46 vetture che daranno vita alla <strong>24 Ore<\/strong>, al tempo la pi\u00f9 importante ed ambita corsa per vetture turismo nei vari gradi di elaborazione previsti dal regolamento internazionale e nazionale. Dalla dodicesima posizione, con il numero 86, scatta al via una vettura che sembra <strong>un&#8217;intrusa<\/strong>, tanto il suo aspetto esteriore \u00e8 lontano dalle vetture in corsa per centrare la vittoria assoluta. Non si tratta di una berlina o di un coup\u00e9, come magari sarebbe lecito aspettarsi in una gara in pista, ma un <strong>monovolume di grandi dimensioni<\/strong>, una <strong>PEUGEOT 806 da quasi 300 CV<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019auto \u00e8 schierata dalla filiale belga di PEUGEOT, presente in forma ufficiale nel <strong>campionato nazionale Procar<\/strong>, gare dove corrono vetture molto prossime al modello di serie. Tre i piloti, tutti di nazionalit\u00e0 belga, che si alternano al volante. Il pi\u00f9 noto \u00e8 <strong>Eric Bachelart<\/strong>, gi\u00e0 ingaggiato da PEUGEOT Belgio per correre con la 406. Poi ci sono <strong>Philippe Verelleny<\/strong> e <strong>Pascal Witmeur<\/strong>, protagonisti di un&#8217;ottima porzione di gara fino alla dodicesima ora, prima di passare il testimone ai compagni di squadra Van de Wauwer-Boillot-Caiellet che, con una <strong>PEUGEOT 306 Turbodiesel<\/strong>, trionfano nella categoria EcoTech, decisamente proiettata verso il futuro del Diesel nelle competizioni.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>La numero 86 derivava quindi da una PEUGEOT 806, un monovolume di grandi dimensioni che la Casa del Leone aveva messo in commercio anche in Italia e dove aveva riscontrato un ottimo successo di pubblico. Modificata profondamente nella meccanica con l\u2019adozione di un motore derivato da quello della coeva 306 MAXI e l\u2019adozione di sospensioni e freni della 406 Superturismo, aveva una potenza di quasi 300 CV e rappresent\u00f2 un esempio concreto di come si potessero reinterpretare in ottica sportiva alcuni modelli che, apparentemente, di sportivo avevano ben poco. Dest\u00f2 non poco scalpore nel pubblico presente, rappresentato da famiglie con bambini che videro praticamente la stessa auto del padre scendere in gara con agguerrite berline di vari marchi. Ad ogni passaggio era un tripudio di pubblico e a livello di <strong>comunicazione<\/strong> fu un <strong>grande successo<\/strong> perch\u00e9 molti parlarono di quell\u2019avventura fino ad allora impensabile.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Questa esperienza in pista, inoltre, dimostr\u00f2 ancora una volta la capacit\u00e0 di PEUGEOT di realizzare vetture non solo ideali per l\u2019uso quotidiano ma, anche, con qualche modifica tecnica, ideale per l\u2019uso in pista in occasione di competizioni. Una lunga storia quella di PEUGEOT nelle gare che risale addirittura a fine 800 e che \u00e8 costellata da grandissimi successi in tutto il pianeta.
